I know that focusing on weight loss keeps people pulled into the bingeing and restricting cycle and pulled into the &#8220;I&#8217;ll be better when&#8230;&#8221; syndrome (and there&#8217;s never an ending to the when&#8230;), but it&#8217;s also because the focus on weight loss is always inherently focusing on something negative&#8230; losing instead of gaining.\u00a0One thing that I help people do\u00a0in their recovery\u00a0is to focus on\u00a0adding \u00a0instead of subtracting and gaining instead of losing.\u00a0\u00a0Like adding healthy, life affirming foods instead of taking unhealthy foods away, like gaining strength and health instead of losing pounds, like adding\u00a0positive behaviors instead of subtracting\u00a0negative behaviors away. The hope is that the positive behaviors and thoughts will eventually crowd out the less desirable\u00a0behaviors and\u00a0thoughts&#8230; and it works! And it&#8217;s so much more enjoyable to feed yourself healthy, loving foods, thoughts, and actions\u00a0than punishing yourself, criticizing yourself\u00a0or restricting yourself.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What would it be like if you took JUST ONE WEEK and decided to not focus on weight loss at all, to not even think about it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It&#8217;s my one week challenge to you. \u00a0See what happens and then report back.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What are some things you can focus on instead of losing weight? I&#8217;m glad you asked:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1. Gaining strength<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">2. Gaining inner peace and\u00a0calmness<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">3. Being self loving<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">4. Going toward health and well being\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">5. Filling your evenings with self-soothing rituals (ie: baths, good books, foot massages and cuddles)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">6.\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/bingeeatingtherapy.com\/2010\/08\/the-zen-of-recovery-using-meditation-to-help-binge-eating-disorder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/bingeeatingtherapy.com\/2010\/08\/the-zen-of-recovery-using-meditation-to-help-binge-eating-disorder\/\">Breathing into your belly or meditating\u00a0<\/a>when you are feeling stressed or anxious\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">7. Getting more sleep<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There. There are seven things you can focus on for the next seven days.
