So, here&#8217;s a fun project. Make yourself a big beautiful sign that says &#8220;DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.&#8221; Put in on your refrigerator, cupboard, pantry, wherever you go when you binge. On the back of the sign, make a list of other things you can do! For example:<\/p>\n<p>1. take a walk<br \/>\n2. dance around your living room<br \/>\n3. do crossword puzzles<\/p>\n<p>4. play scrabble online (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scrabulous.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> www.scrabulous.com<\/a>)<br \/>\n5. go outside<br \/>\n6. call a friend, family member, support person<br \/>\n7. go to a cafe<br \/>\n8. acknowledge and try to sit with your feelings<br \/>\n9. think about how you want to feel later (allow yourself to see your decision through to the end)<br \/>\n10. visualize <span class=\"nfakPe\">something<\/span> positive<br \/>\n11. go to a 12 step meeting<br \/>\n12. go to <a href=\"http:\/\/yahoogroups.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">yahoogroups.com<\/a> (search OA, overeaters, AA, etc..)<br \/>\n13. do your hair<br \/>\n14. brush your teeth\/floss your teeth<br \/>\n15. light candles or incense<br \/>\n16. shower\/take a long hot bath<br \/>\n17. lay down and rest or go to sleep if tired.<br \/>\n18. read<br \/>\n19. write a letter\/email<br \/>\n20. read old letters\/emails<br \/>\n21. take a soothing bathtub with lavendar oil<\/p>\n<p>22. create a collage<br \/>\n23. paint a picture<br \/>\n24. knit<br \/>\n25. sew<br \/>\n26. go to church\/synagogue<br \/>\n27. watch a dvd or go out to the movies<br \/>\n28. clean<br \/>\n29. breath\/meditate\/stretch\/<span class=\"nfakPe\">do<\/span> yoga<br \/>\n30. bring food to homeless people<br \/>\n31. volunteer or research volunteer opportunities at <a title=\"volunteer\" href=\"http:\/\/volunteermatch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">volunteermatch.org<\/a><br \/>\n32. go visit patients in the hospital<br \/>\n33. step outside<br \/>\n34. cross things off your to <span class=\"nfakPe\">do<\/span> list<br \/>\n35. spa day in your home. hot oil treatment, manicure, pedicure, facial, etc&#8230;<br \/>\n36. go out for a manicure\/pedicure, etc.<br \/>\nALTERNATIVE FOR QUIETING THE CRITIC<br \/>\n37. look at pictures of friends<br \/>\n38. listen to old voicemails<br \/>\n39. make a gratitude list<br \/>\n40. tell the critic it&#8217;s wrong and list the reasons why<br \/>\n41. externalize the critic<br \/>\n42. scream at (into)\u00a0 pillow<br \/>\n43. scream outside<br \/>\n44. throw rocks outside in nature, into the ocean perhaps (not at a person!)<br \/>\n45. go to a kickboxing class<br \/>\n46. go out dancing with friends<br \/>\n47. allow yourself to receive love and validation from loved ones.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The concept of doing something different seems pretty simple, but in the moment of a binge, it can be very difficult.
